Dear Half-Mast, I'm trying to find the latest troubleshooting infor.

That adjusts line pressure, you still need a method of shifting it or use a manual VB.1996 silverado 4x4. the transmission first went out , no reverse, no overdrive. when i tore it down the reverse planetary gears ring gear and the drum were bad. i changed them from another 4L60 that i had. it worked for 2 months or so then it got to where it would not go into overdrive and would not shift from 1st to 2nd. it also was slipping. so i kitted the thing and it still does the same ...When the key is in the ignition and the switch is turned to almost the on position, the engine light does come on and it doesn't stay on. ok. i think you have a bad ignition switch ,,this would explain the engine light problem and the transmission shifting problem,,replace the ignition switc,,not the key lock but the electrical switch itself.The 4L60E will lock in 3rd and 4th, you could try both gears. Also, it won't lock unless you have your foot on the gas and are under a slight load. So to test this, I would get it to about 45-50 MPH with the gear selector in 3rd, or at 55-60 in 4th just to be safe.
